It might be a "school” night, but that’s no excuse to stay home "studying” (i.e. watching TV and doing your nails) because the annual CMJ festival kicks off tonight. No longer relegated just to the college-ID carrying set, this marathon-like music fest has become a premiere showcase for up-and-coming indie bands from around the globe, kind of like Sundance and Slamdance. Get into the old collegiate radio spirit at the Bowery Hotel tonight with the School Night NY Showcase hosted by KCRW.com (SoCal’s leading NPR affiliate associated with Santa Monica College). Along with local East Village Radio and MFG, the free event starting at 6:30 p.m. features The Duke Spirit from London, U.S. Royalty from Washington, D.C., and Marcellus Hall, among others. Cheers to giving it the old college try!
