Here’s a chanteuse to add to your radar: Mimi Goese. Her vocals have been featured by Moby and Rolling Stone magazine has described her performance style as an "eloquent sonic ballet.” Tonight she and collaborator Ben Neill will showcase their "Songs for Persephone” in at the Cooper Square Hotel Penthouse for the Joe’s Pub Summer Salon Series. The album culls music from their multimedia work "Persephone,” which premiered at last year’s BAM’s Next Wave Festival (take note, this year’s Next Wave is going on right now). Local music critics, like New York magazine and the New York Times, have praised the duo for what the Times has hailed as "shimmery electro-pop songs sung by Goese in a throaty voice that recalls Kate Bush and a number of other alt-radio goddesses.” On the periphery of pop icons, over her career, Goese has led the band Hugo Largo, worked with R.E.M, and released a solo album on David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label. It’s fall and she’s back again.
