Since opening in 2005, the perennially trendy Fatty Crab has introduced New Yorkers to Malaysia’s addictive cuisine. It’s also made New York Magazine’s Where to Eat list several times, been lauded for having one of the best burgers, and been called the best brunch for those who like it hot. However, despite how delicious it is, it turns out there’s more to Malaysian cuisine than Fatty Crab and its sister venues. Starting today, the second annual Malaysia Restaurant Week (June 13-19) offers up a chance to sample more than 20 Malaysian restaurants in New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut with $20.11 three-course prix fixe menus. Participating restaurants include Fatty Crab (of course), Penang, and the Michelin-starred Laut, among others. Said Camie Lai of Laut, "We’re delighted to take part in Malaysian Restaurant Week again. Last year we had lines around the block and we’re confident this year will be even more successful.” Several stylish pan-Asian restaurants, such as Sho Shaun Hergatt, The Stanton Social, Double Crown, and Ember Room—will also serve dedicated Malaysian or Malaysian-inspired two-course menus.
