DIGITAL SUPREMACY

October 13, 2011

Uh-oh, WWD ran a story earlier this week that could fuel the U.S.-Euro fashion feud over Fashion Week scheduling, since for some the main issue boils down to vying for the most global attention: According to the story, "American fashion brands have surpassed their European counterparts when it comes to fluency in the digital world. Or so says New York University think tank Luxury Lab, or L2, which today released its third annual Digital IQ Index ranking fashion brands according to their online competence.” The study examined categories, such as social media strategy, websites and e-commerce, among other digital sectors, to see how brands perform and found U.S.-based houses, like Donna Karan, dominate 10 of the top 15 slots. "When asked why she thought European brands lagged behind with respect to digital innovation, L2’s director of research and advisory Maureen Mullen said that it’s a combination of expectations for private versus public companies, as well as less access to digital talent.”
