2.) DON’T EXPECT TOO MUCH
The 17-day New York Film Festival started Friday with a star-studded,
red-carpet screening of Roman Polanski’s new comedy "Carnage” about
parents trying to settle their kids’ playground disputes only to find
themselves equally at odds. Now that the fest is in full swing, if
you’re not on the list for tonight’s A-lister, invite-only showing of
Lars von Trier’s "Melancholia,” check out "Don’t Expect Too Much,” a
documentary on the late, great, "Rebel Without a Cause” director
Nicholas Ray, another auteur also known for stirring controversy.
Directed by his wife, Susan Ray, the film "examines her late husband’s
stormy romance with Hollywood, his self-imposed exile in Europe, and
his eventual return to America, where he began work on the wildly
experimental magnum opus that would become his final cinematic
testament.” Who knows maybe you’ll just bump into one of
"Melancholia’s” stars, Kirsten Dunst, Alexander Skarsgard, and
Charlotte Gainsbourg at the concession stand.
